Introduction: Organization

Cleanliness of space is important to me.  When space becomes cluttered or cramped, it affects our lifestyle even though we may not immediately realize it.  The dishes in the sink weigh on our mind and the dust on the shelves trap our negative energy.  As the space around us closes in, our brains become cramped and our thoughts are trapped.

Story Time:
As a little kid, I was always a hoarder.  I kept anything and everything - from my baby toys, to those cheap trinkets that came in Happy Meals, to old science projects, to every single letter I received in the mail.  Although I have no pictures available of my bedroom from that time in my life, you can probably imagine what it looked like.  For several years, the floor was covered in just a giant pile of junk.

My stuff became spread out over the entire house - and my mother, the busy, bustling home-schooling parent she is, could only dump all of my belongings in my room and hope that the problem would eventually take care of herself.  Many times she tried to help me get rid of things, and many times she helped me clean and tidy and re-clean my room. Again, and again, and again.  Never did I learn the concept of putting away my toys! She even hired a good family friend to help me organize my belongings, but to no avail.

Honestly, I don't remember how that problem was solved.  Thinking back, the one time I can identify is when I began to become more responsible for cleaning my own room.  When I was around 12, I began taking it upon myself to keep things tidy.  Gradually, I got rid of more and more things and my room was cleaned more frequently.

When I was 14, I really got in the habit of cleaning regularly.  Since then, I've kept those good habits and my room never gets too cluttered.  I come up with new ways to keep things organized and tidy, and go through my stuff every 3-4 months to get rid of old clothes and accumulated junk.  I do a bi-weekly cleanup (to take care of any cups, silverware, books, and clothes that have gotten strewn about) and there we have it! A relatively clean (but by no means perfect) living space!

My Room:

And here is my desk, from which I blog, work, watch Netflix, and often consume food:

To keep myself motivated, and perhaps help some people along the way, I will be sharing certain ways that I keep my spaces clean.  I'll share what sorts of things I keep, and what sorts of things I throw away. Organization is important, and it can be easy.  The space in which we use to work and live is the essential and most important component of the work and life itself.  In short, cleanliness can truly better one's life.
